VJ, TV show host and actress Ruby Bhatia is best remembered for her bob, cheerful demeanour and American accent. Winner of the 1993 Miss India- Canada beauty pageant, Toronto-based Bhatia arrived in Mumbai to dip her toes into the music television world.

"I was also Sunday mid-day's agony aunt in the late '90s, early 2000," she says with a laugh, "I love writing, but now, if I had to write something, it would be about spirituality."

At 43, Bhatia says nothing can tempt her back to the glamour world. "I like the anonymity that life offers me now. I can walk on the beach, shop for groceries at a supermarket [and not get noticed]. I attempted newsreading a while ago, but it felt odd; I was breathless and nervous. I couldn't do it.

Bhatia now runs a dance and fitness school with husband Ajit S Dutta

There was no connection," she says. Along with her choreographer-husband Ajit S Dutta, she runs Body Dynamics, a dance and fitness studio with branches in Juhu and Bandra. They have two sons, Krishnav (6) and Vishnuv (2). "Being a mother is a demanding job and I want to do it to the fullest. I occasionally anchor live events and corporate exhibitions, though," she says.

Explaining her decision to quit glamour, she says, "As I turned 30, I realised time was running out. I went on a soul-searching trip. I turned to yoga and meditation. It was during one such trip that I met Ajit. My life has a sense of balance now. I have found inner peace."
