Mithun Chakraborty has been hospitalised in Kolkata after experiencing a physical health issue. The veteran actor and BJP leader underwent a minor operation on Thursday night and is reportedly doing well. The West Bengal Chief Minister visited him at the hospital and shared an update, saying Chakraborty is expected to be discharged soon.
"Renowned film actor and one of the members of the Central Committee of BJP, Mithun Chakraborty, is admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to physical illness. I went to the hospital to meet him today. I spoke to him and took information about his physical condition. I pray to the merciful God for his speedy recovery," the Chief Minister said in his post on Facebook.
Later, while speaking to the mediapersons, the Chief Minister informed that Chakraborty had a minor operation on Thursday night. "He had informed our party's state president and me in West Bengal, Samik Bhattacharya, regarding it last night. He did not want publicity over the development. He is doing well. Will be released soon," the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also spoke with the concerned doctors about Chakraborty's health condition.
He further said that Chakraborty is an asset to Bengal. "His identity is beyond just his political life. His contribution behind the beginning of a nationalist government in West Bengal is immense. A small operation was performed. He is doing well now," the Chief Minister added.
In 2024, Mithun was also hospitalised after showing symptoms of an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident. After being discharged from the hospital, the superstar said that, barring the habit of overeating, he did not have any other complications.
Chakraborty, a former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member, severed all ties with the previous ruling party in West Bengal and also resigned from the Upper House of Parliament after several of its leaders were allegedly involved in the multi-crore Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund controversies in 2016. He cited health issues as the main reason behind his resignation.
Later, he joined the BJP and played an important role in campaigning for its candidates in elections, especially the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls, during which he ditched special treatment.
He also has several films in his kitty. He is playing a prominent role in Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which stars Vidya Balan as well. Apart from this, he has Baap with Sunny Deol and Jackie Shroff.
