Priyanka Chopra with Nick Jonas and Malti
Apart from being prolific artists, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are doting parents to daughter Malti Marie. The actress welcomed her child via surrogacy in 2022. However, the journey was emotionally tough for the couple, as the little one faced several health complications due to premature birth. In a recent interview, Nick Jonas got teary-eyed remembering how nurses resuscitated her.
Speaking on the Jay Shetty Podcast, the singer revealed that their daughter was born purple and underwent six blood transfusions. "We were expecting her to arrive in April, the year she was born. Then we got a call that it was going to be sooner... We got to the hospital and came out 1 pound, 11 ounces, and purple basically," the singer said. He added how the nurses in the NICU resuscitated her and took care of her.
"It was Covid-19 time, and so my wife and I basically did 12-hour shifts at the hospital for 3.5 months. I can still smell it; there are always visceral things. It was both comforting and frightening to be there every day and to see other families going through a similar situation. She (Malti) fought every day for 3.5 months and slowly started to gain some weight. After six blood transfusions, she was doing great. We got to take her home after 3.5 months," he added.
After dating for some time, Nick and PeeCee tied the knot in 2018 in a grand ceremony with both Christian and Hindu traditions. The couple welcomed their daughter, Malti, via surrogacy in January 2022. Talking about opting for surrogacy, the actress once shared, "I had medical complications, (so) this was a necessary step, and I'm so grateful I was in a position where I could do this."
Recalling the first three months of seeing Malti in the NICU, Priyanka shared, "We spent every single day with her on my chest, on my husband's chest. I didn't know if she would make it or not."
On the work front, Nick will be seen with Paul Rudd in Power Ballad. Priyanka, on the other hand, is all set to make her comeback in Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli's next directorial venture, Varanasi, with Mahesh Babu. She has shot some of the crucial scenes in Hyderabad and other locations.
