Twenty years after filmmaker Priyadarshan delivered a laugh riot with Malamaal Weekly (2006), the comedy is set to return. Mid-day had learnt that Malamaal Weekly 2 is currently in the works, bringing the franchise back with another dose of chaos and humour. Now, details about the cast have surfaced. As per reports, the film will star Parineeti Chopra and Raveena Tandon.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, "Both the actresses are perfect as per the requirement of the script. Hence, the makers were really keen to have them on board. Thankfully, both Raveena Tandon and Parineeti Chopra loved the script and their respective characters. They readily signed the film."
The source continued, "Both actresses are talented and have great comic timing. Raveena has proved her worth with the numerous comedies she has starred in during the 1990s and early 2000s, as well as the recently released Welcome To The Jungle (2026). Meanwhile, Parineeti Chopra began her career with a comic and adorable role in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011). Hence, expect them to rock the show in Malamaal Weekly 2."
Paresh Rawal and other members of the cast, which included Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav, are expected to reprise their roles. But there's a catch! Sources have told mid-day that director Amit Sharma, of Badhaai Ho (2018) fame, will take up the baton from Priyadarshan. "Amit is in talks to helm the sequel. He is excited to take the franchise ahead," said an insider.
The film's official release date and further casting details are awaited. An official announcement is expected soon.
Malamaal Weekly is a popular Hindi comedy directed by Priyadarshan and starring Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, and Riteish Deshmukh. Set in a small village, the film revolves around a poor lottery winner who dies of shock, leaving his neighbours scrambling to find ways to claim the winning ticket.
Talking about the cast, this will mark Parineeti's first project after she embraces motherhood. Parineeti tied the knot with politician Raghav Chadha on September 24, 2023, and the couple welcomed their first child, son Neer, on October 19, 2025.
