Actor Saif Ali Khan recently travelled to the UK to pay tribute to his late father, legendary cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, at a special ceremony held at Winchester College. The actor unveiled a commemorative plaque at the institution's historic cricket pavilion, Hunter Tent, celebrating Tiger Pataudi's enduring legacy and contribution to the sport.
The ceremony took place during Wykeham Day, Winchester College's annual summer celebration that brings together students, staff, alumni and families to honour the institution's long-standing traditions in academics, culture and sports.
Saif, who is also an alumnus of the prestigious British institution, spoke about his father's deep bond with Winchester College and how the school played a significant role in shaping him as both a cricketer and an individual.
"As a former pupil of Winchester College myself, it's a great privilege to return here today to honour my father's legacy. Winchester was where my father's cricketing journey truly began. It was a place he spoke of with great affection, not only for the sport but for the friendships, values and experiences that shaped him," Saif said.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the family, he added, "Our family is immensely proud and grateful that Winchester College has chosen to honour him in this way. We hope this plaque will inspire future generations of pupils, just as Winchester inspired him."
Speaking at the event, Winchester College Warden Sir Richard Stagg highlighted Tiger Pataudi's remarkable achievements during his time at the school and his lasting impact on cricket.
"Tiger Pataudi remains one of the most distinguished figures in the history of cricket, and a source of immense pride to Winchester College," Stagg said. He noted that Pataudi had broken a long-standing school record for runs scored in a season and went on to become one of Indian cricket's most influential leaders.
Stagg further said that honouring Tiger Pataudi was also a celebration of the deep cultural and sporting ties between India and the United Kingdom, united by a shared passion for cricket.
On the work front, Saif was recently seen in Kartavya and will next feature in Priyadarshan's Haiwaan alongside Akshay Kumar. He also has Netflix's Hum Hindustani slated for release later this year.
