The Vvaan: Makers acquire sync rights after vocalist’s copyright claim

On September 20, musician Sargam Vaish took to Instagram to call out the makers of The Vvaan, as he alleged that a master recording of Aigiri Nandini, which was created by him, was used in the trailer of the Sidharth Malhotra-starrer without his permission. Within 24 hours, Balaji Motion Pictures appears to have taken corrective action. Vaish revealed to mid-day that the legal team of Ektaa R Kapoor's production house met him on the evening of September 21 and acquired the sync rights.

Hours after the meeting, Vaish told mid-day, "Balaji's executives and lawyers have been cooperative. We met them today; they were kind and apologetic, even though they didn't cause [the leak]. They are taking the sync rights for the track. I am grateful for the fact that we were able to resolve it so smoothly."

Last week, the musician was shocked when he heard his own creation in the trailer of director Deepak Kumar Mishra's feature. "This is the version I had created for Ram Gopal Varma's film. I own the master rights. No one had approached me for an NOC or permission," he recalled.

Even as Balaji Motion Pictures has taken corrective action, the immediate question for the musician is how the recording reached the team of The Vvaan. Vaish added, "The source of the leak is not known to us yet. We are trying to trace how this happened."
