American actor Selma Blair has found herself in a controversy after she was taken into custody recently. The actress was arrested over an alleged mid-air incident aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York, that reportedly left two flight attendants injured on Sunday night.
Blair was at central booking at Queens Criminal Court on Monday afternoon. She was taken into custody when the police responded to reports of a physically abusive passenger aboard the flight arriving at John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), the Port Authority stated.
The actor was later transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation. Her representative, earlier on Monday, said that Blair had experienced a "medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct". She was given immediate medical attention and was in stable condition, the representative noted.
According to the Port Authority, two flight attendants reported injuries as one of them had to be taken to a hospital for further evaluation. A dispatch audio obtained by CNN from ATC.com suggests that medical personnel had initially been asked to meet the arriving flight to attend to two crew members.
The audio later revealed minor injuries, including a bloody nose and bite marks, although it did not specify who had sustained them. The audio also mentioned that the passenger may have hit her head against the aircraft's bulkhead. The FBI is currently investigating the incident.
Later on Monday, the actor appeared at Queens Criminal Court, wherein an Attorney for Blair said the actress suffers from multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. They added that she missed several doses of "a powerful medication" that she consumed to manage her severe neurological symptoms, and that she struck her head during the flight.
Blair's lawyer, Shawn Barnes, told the judge, "These factors, coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation."
Meanwhile, another attorney representing the actress was reportedly seen wiping tears from Blair's eyes as she broke down while pleading not guilty to the assault charges for the attacks on the police officer and nurse in Queens Criminal Court on Monday. The actor was eventually released after posting bail set at USD 0,000 cash. Additionally, she also faces federal charges for the incident on board.
