Owen Cooper youngest emmy nominee
The awards season has officially started! Actors Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song revealed the Emmy nominees across various categories, including drama, comedy, and limited series, today. While several shows have secured top spots, Netflix thriller Adolescence has truly hit it out of the park with 13 nominations. Moreover, it has also created history with Owen Cooper being the youngest nominee in a category.
The 15-year-old actor got a nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie category. If he wins, Cooper would be the youngest male winner of any acting Emmy ever. He surpasses current record-holder Scott Jacoby, who was 16 years old when he was nominated for the 1972 TV movie That Certain Summer. Cooper will compete against Adolescence co-star Ashley Walters, Javier Bardem, Rob Delaney, and Peter Sarsgaard.
Talking about Adolescence, the official synopsis reads, "A family's world turns upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller is arrested for murdering a schoolmate. The charges against their son force them to confront every parent's worst nightmare." Owen plays a pivotal part in the show. The show has shattered several records and became one of the most-watched shows in the UK. It also managed to spark a debate across the globe about gender-based violence and teenage masculinity.
Adolescence bagged a total of 13 nominations at the Emmys, matching the score with popular series like Jeremy Allen's The Bear and Noah Wyle's The Pitt across different categories. Apart from this, Ben Stiller's Severance bagged the highest number of nominations across all the categories, which is followed by series The Penguin and The Studio.
In 2025, the Television Academy received 228 total submissions across drama, comedy, and limited or anthology series. Across the 15 program categories, there are exactly 600 total series in contention. This year's nominations-round voting took place between June 12 and June 23. Final voting by Academy members takes place from August 18-27. The 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Nate Bargatze and broadcast live Sunday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on CBS, as well as stream live and on demand via select packages on Paramount+.
