During the opening night of his 30-concert residency at Madison Square Garden, pop superstar Harry Styles gave the audience quiet a few moments to remeber. The One Direction member paid tribute to the late country music icon Dolly Parton. Later during his show, he gave a shouted out his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce.
As he spoke with the audience, Styles talked about the atmosphere of New York City before turning his attention to the venue of Madison Square Garden. "New York City - the Big Apple! The city that never sleeps," he said, which led to excitement from the crowd.
He then spoke about Madison Square Garden, describing it as the home of the New York Knicks before adding that the famous arena is also a place where people "do weddings." "We're at Madison Square Garden, home of the world champion New York Knicks! And they also do weddings," he said.
His unexpected reference to the Taylor-Travis wedding immediately sparked cheers and laughter from the audience. Interestingly, Styles appeared amused by the reaction, as he smiled at fans responding to his playful remark.
The joke was a reference to Taylor Swift who married Travis Kelce at the same venue earlier in July 2026. The pop superstar and Kansas City Chiefs' star reportedly exchanged vows at Madison Square Garden on July 3 in front of almost 1,000 guests.
For the unversed, Styles dated Swift from November 2012 to January 2013. Their relationship is believed to be the inspiration behind Swift's chart-topping 2014 song Style. According to Variety, Styles had even "received an invitation" to Swift's wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. However, sources said that "Styles is currently on tour and will not make it to MSG."
On the other hand, Styles' fiancé, Zoe Kravitz, did attend the Swift-Kelce mega-wedding.
Nevertheless, there appears to be no bad blood between the two ex-lovers. Before MSG, Styles had given a cheeky nod to Swift's wedding during his record-breaking Wembley residency on July 3, while performing his 2017 song Two Ghosts. Many beleive that the sond is is response to her tune Style, as he sings, "Same lips red, same eyes blue / Same white shirt, couple more tattoos."
