Actor Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about confronting crew members who were not authorised to be present while she was filming a nude scene. The actor said the incident became a defining moment in her career, teaching her the importance of speaking up and using her position in the industry to protect others.
During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Lawrence reflected on how she has become more confident about advocating for herself over the years. "You have to be malleable. That's part of the job," Lawrence said, citing her experience working with filmmaker Lynne Ramsay on Die My Love. She recalled how the director asked her to change her appearance for the film, saying, "When Lynne Ramsay for Die My Love says cut your hair and get mullet bangs and dye it platinum blonde⦠that's the gig."
However, Lawrence drew a distinction between making creative compromises and accepting situations that make actors uncomfortable. "But I definitely speak up more now because I am aware of the place I have in the industry," she added.
Recalling the incident, Lawrence said she discovered that crew members who had not been approved to be present were on set while she was filming nudity. "There was an instance on set where crew members who were not approved when I was doing nudity were on set. I came down hard on it," she said.
Lawrence explained that she was concerned about how a newcomer might handle a similar situation without the confidence or industry standing to challenge it. "If we are not setting that principle, then what on earth is going to happen to an 18-year-old unknown when she shows up and there are people on set who are not approved to be there?" she asked.
Lawrence also previously discussed filming intimate scenes with Robert Pattinson in Die My Love on the Las Culturistas podcast. She said she felt safe working with the actor and explained why their experience did not make her feel the need for an intimacy coordinator.
"I felt really safe with Rob," she said, describing him as "not pervy" and noting that their conversations often revolved around their children and relationships.
Lawrence added that some actors could react negatively when their co-stars did not reciprocate their interest, saying, "A lot of male actors get offended if you don't want to f''k them, and then the punishment starts. He was not like that."
The actor also said she was comfortable with nudity and wanted Ramsay to have creative freedom. Recalling how the team asked whether they should edit out a close-up showing her cellulite, Lawrence said, "No. That's an a''."
Her comments highlight the distinction between being comfortable with nudity as part of a performance and ensuring that boundaries and consent are respected on set.
