As the anticipation around Hollywood actor Jason Statham's upcoming action thriller Mutiny continues to grow ahead of its August 21 release, the film seemingly faced a setback two days prior to release. The film reportedly became briefly available to stream on OTT platform in the US, just two days before its scheduled theatrical release.
According to a report by The Verge, the entire 1-hour-35-minute film was available to be streamed on Prime Video US. It was reportedly available on the platform for at least an hour before the platform took it down.
For the unversed, Mutiny is an exclusive theatrical release planned to hit the screens worldwide on August 21. It is not clear how or when the film was added to Prime Video before its release. The listing on the OTT site appeared to be fully populated, including the cast information, a video thumbnail, as well as an official synopsis. The listing has also been taken down after the accidental leak and now only shows the title.
The listing reportedly described Mutiny as the story of Cole Reed, whose billionaire industrialist boss is killed in front of him, as he is framed for the crime. Naturally, he is forced to go on the run and tries to uncover the conspiracy behind the killing.
Notably, Mutiny is produced by Punch Palace Productions and MadRiver Pictures. It is distributed in the US by Lionsgate. Interestingly, none of these companies, which are involved in the film's production or distribution, are owned by Amazon.
Neither Amazon, Lionsgate, nor the film's team have commented on the alleged leak so far. Several users on Reddit and X claimed to have seen the film available on Prime Video before it was eventually taken down.
The Mutiny leak comes amid a series of recent similar incidents involving major film releases and technology platforms. Earlier, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey had leaked on X just two days after its theatrical release. The pirated version of the epic reportedly attracted millions of views before being removed.
Similarly, Netflix's unreleased Nicolas Cage film Fortitude was also leaked after thieves allegedly breached the streaming company's internal servers.
Mutiny remains unavailable on Prime Video after the takedown and is scheduled to release exclusively in theatres on August 21.
