Sabrina Carpenter restraining orderSinger and actor Sabrina Carpenter has reportedly obtained a temporary restraining order against an alleged stalker after a series of disturbing incidents at her residence. In court documents, the Grammy-winning artist claimed the man repeatedly targeted her home and engaged in behaviour she described as intentional stalking.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the individual at the centre of the case has been identified as 31-year-old William Applegate. In a declaration submitted to the court, Sabrina Carpenter stated that she has never met or communicated with him. "William Applegate is a complete stranger to me. I have never met or communicated with him in any way. I have no desire to meet him or communicate with him," she said.
One of the most alarming incidents allegedly occurred on May 23. In her signed declaration obtained by Rolling Stone, Carpenter claimed that Applegate trespassed onto a neighbouring property in an attempt to circumvent the security measures around her home. He then allegedly approached her front door and forcefully pushed down on the handle.
After discovering that the door was locked, Applegate allegedly knocked repeatedly, rang the doorbell several times, and refused to leave the premises. Police were later called to the scene and arrested him. "This is not the behavior of someone who stumbled upon my property by accident," the 27-year-old singer wrote in her statement. "This is intentional stalking and surveillance directed at me and my residence."
Following the allegations, a Los Angeles judge granted a temporary restraining order requiring Applegate to stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her home, vehicle, and workplace. The order also extends protection to other residents connected to the property, including her older sister Sarah and Sarah's boyfriend, George.
The singer's album Man's Best Friend won both Album of the Year and Best Pop Album at the American Music Awards. Carpenter also secured the Best Female Pop Artist title.
The 26-year-old singer sparked controversy earlier this year with the cover for the record, which depicted her on all fours with her hair being tugged by a faceless figure. The singer stated that she was trying to showcase how women are "emotionally yanked" around in relationships with the controversial cover.
