Indian actor and comedian Vir Das is once again taking Indian stand-up comedy to the international stage. His Netflix special Vir Das: Fool Volume has been nominated in the Comedy category at the 2026 International Emmy Awards, marking his third nomination at the prestigious global television awards. The nomination was announced on September 23, with Vir Das joining a list of international television creators and performers recognised across 16 categories. The 2026 winners will be announced at a ceremony in New York on November 23.
The latest recognition adds another chapter to Vir Das' growing International Emmy association. He was first nominated in 2021 for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India, which the International Academy describes as the first stand-up special to receive a nomination.
Two years later, Das won the Comedy award for Vir Das: Landing, sharing the honour with Derry Girls Season 3. The win made him the first Indian comedian to receive an International Emmy in the category, according to The Indian Express.
In 2024, the stand-up comedian added another milestone when he became the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards in New York.
Released on Netflix in July 2025, Vir Das' Fool Volume is a globally filmed special featuring performances from Mumbai, London and New York City. Netflix describes the special as a deeply personal exploration of happiness, silence and finding one's voice after Vir Das lost his own shortly before an important show. The comedian said the special is ultimately about "what it means to have a voice, and what happens when you actually use it", while thanking the jury, audiences, his team and Netflix for the nomination
The recognition also follows a significant milestone in Vir Das' relationship with the streaming platform. Netflix highlights Fool Volume was his fifth Netflix comedy special, making him the first Indian comedian to reach that mark with the streamer.
The 2026 nomination comes as Indian entertainment continues to find space at international awards. The Indian Express reported that Vir Das' Fool Volume is one of two Indian nominations this year, alongside SonyLIV's Real Kashmir Football Club in the Drama Series category.
For Vir, the latest nomination extends a journey that began with For India, continued with his Emmy-winning Landing, and now reaches Fool Volume. The final result will be decided in November, but the nomination itself gives his latest special another international chapter.
