The organisation, The Recording Academy, known for presenting the annual Grammy Awards, recently introduced a new category, âBest Asian Pop Music Performance'. K-Pop fans were waiting to see groups representing Korea on the global stage. However, according to the latest development, BLACKPINK is likely to miss the upcoming awards as they could not submit their latest third mini album DEADLINE. Meanwhile, K-pop groups BTS and Stray Kids have also not submitted their respective music for the 69th Grammy Awards.
BLACKPINK's latest album, DEADLINE, includes five tracks, namely JUMP, GO, Me and my, Champion, and Fxxxboy. It was released on February 27, 2026. According to the rules of the 69th Grammy Awards, the eligibility period was from August 31, 2025, to August 28, 2026. Despite the timeline, the album could not qualify since JUMP was released as a single on July 11, 2025, and the eligibility period had not started then.
Additionally, their other four tracks, GO, Me and my, Champion, and Fxxxboy, were performed in English. As a result, they did not meet the language criteria. Considering the requirements, solo releases of BLACKPINK members did not qualify.
Although BLACKPINK couldn't submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards, Rose has received three major nominations for her collaborative song APT with Bruno Mars in Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories. The singer was also the first solo K-pop artist to perform on the main Grammy stage.
Before BLACKPINK, BTS had announced in August 2026 that they would not submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards. Their agency Big Hit Entertainment wrote on Instagram, "We have decided not to submit for Grammys this year. Rather than music being divided by region or language, we hope music itself can be heard and loved for what it is. We are always grateful to ARMY and everyone who is always with us."
Similarly, JYP Entertainment, on behalf of Stray Kids, also informed that the group will not submit an entry for the 69th Grammy Awards, without revealing the reason.
According to The Recording Academy, "Best Asian Pop Music Performance recognises artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognised within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. Awards are presented to the performing artist(s)." The new category has also sparked controversy due to its norms.
