South Korean actor Park Hae Soo has another reason to celebrate. The Squid Game star and his wife have welcomed their second child, a baby boy. The couple became parents again on August 23, with Hae Soo's agency BH Entertainment confirming that both the mother and newborn are doing well.
A representative from the agency told The Chosun Daily, "Park Hae Soo's second son was born yesterday. He is currently by his wife's side, and both the mother and the baby are in good health." The 45-year-old actor is currently staying with his wife at the hospital.
Hae Soo and his wife, who is not from the entertainment industry, tied the knot in January 2019. The couple welcomed their first son in 2021. Their latest arrival now makes them a family of four, with two boys.
The actor had first revealed that he was set to become a father for the second time during an emotional moment at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards on July 31. While accepting his first Best Actor trophy for the crime thriller The Scarecrow, Hae Soo surprised audiences by sharing the happy news.
"Our son's name is Chukbok-i, and he always brings blessings to me," he said during his acceptance speech. He then addressed his wife, who was watching the ceremony from home, saying, "My beloved wife is probably even more nervous than me right now watching from home. I love her. Daddy won an award. I love you too, our second blessing."
Speaking to Sports Chosun after the ceremony, Hae Soo explained why he chose such a public moment to share the news. "This is a joyful and blessed event, so I wanted to share the news of my second pregnancy with many people," he said, adding that he had been worried during the early stages and could not tell everyone personally.
The actor recently earned praise for The Scarecrow, in which he played former homicide detective-turned-profiler Kang Tae Joo. The series revisited the infamous Hwaseong serial murder case, following Tae Joo as new evidence brings him back to an investigation haunted by wrongful convictions and buried secrets.
With family celebrations now taking centre stage, Hae Soo also has a busy work calendar ahead. He will next feature in Netflix's crime thriller Paper Man, alongside Jo Jung Suk and Claudia Kim, playing Oh Seung Eop, the First Deputy Director of the Anti-Counterfeiting Division at the Korea Mint. He is also attached to The Great Bang Ok Sook and Sad Tropics.
