Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Super Subbu, its first-ever Telugu original series, and announced that the comedy-drama will premiere on July 2. Created and directed by Mallik Ram, the series stars Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma in pivotal roles.

Set in the quirky village of Maakipur, the series follows Subramanyam Chillukuri Rao, fondly known as Subbu, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he lands a job as a sex education officer. Armed with little experience but plenty of sincerity, Subbu arrives in the village hoping to educate its residents, only to find himself at the centre of chaos, curiosity and conversations that quickly spiral beyond the classroom.

As he navigates his unusual assignment, Subbu must also confront a bigger question: how far is he willing to go when his love life, family relationships and career ambitions are put on the line?

Super Subbu tackles taboo topics

Speaking about the series, it is described as Super Subbu as 'a delightful comedy with heart' that uses humour to open up conversations around sex education and consent.

Super Subbu brings together everything we look for in a great story - a distinct local voice, themes that resonate far beyond its setting, and warmth and laughs you will remember long after the show is over. The ensemble cast, which includes Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar, Murali Sharma, Maanasa Choudhary and veteran comedian Brahmanandam.

The series marks a significant milestone for Netflix India as it expands its regional content slate with its first Telugu original production.

Mallik Ram on creating Maakipur

'With Super Subbu, we wanted to tell a story that is fun and full of heart while also making conversations around topics like sex education feel less taboo. Humour became the best way to do that because laughter instantly breaks the discomfort,' Mallik said.

Ram added that beyond the comedy, the series also explores family dynamics, generational gaps and relationships through the eyes of its innocent protagonist.

Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, Super Subbu also stars Getup Srinu, Jeevan and Brahmanandamin key roles.

The series will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 2.
