Starring Mohanlal and Shobana in the lead roles, the movie is eyeing a digital premiere after a successful theatrical run. The family drama hit theatres on April 26 and wowed audiences with its heartwarming story. The film will be premiering on OTT this Friday, May 30.
Directed by Operation Java fame Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum will be available for streaming on the digital platform JioHotstar from May 30. The OTT platform made the big announcement with an official Instagram post that read, "Thudarum will be streaming from 30 May only on JioHotstar."
Adding to the buzz, the film is set to release in multiple languages, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, aiming to connect with a wider audience beyond Malayalam speakers.
When Thudarum was released in theatres, mid-day reviewed the movie and heaped praises on the star power, performances, and emotional depth it brought.
A part of our review reads, "Thudarum is not just another star-driven project - it's a celebration of everything that makes Mohanlal a legend. For fans, this is the theatrical experience they have been craving. And for general audiences, it's a reminder of the rare magic that occurs when a great actor is given the right canvas."
The story for Thudarum (also referred to as L360) is penned by Tharun Moorthy and K.R. Sunil. It is the 14th film produced by Renjith under Rejaputra Films. Mohanlal plays the role of a taxi driver, reminiscent of his early iconic performances. The film also features veteran actor Jagadish in a prominent role and is expected to release during the Puja holidays in October.
Earlier, there was speculation around the genre, with Mohanlal hinting that it might be a thriller like his hit film Drishyam. However, the director clarified that it is a family drama.
Tharun Moorthy, the film's director, made his debut with the critically acclaimed Operation Java in 2021, followed by Saudi Vellakka in 2022. Both films were praised for their storytelling and performances.
Thudarum marks Mohanlal and Shobana's 56th collaboration. Shobana made her comeback to cinema with the 2020 Malayalam film Varane Avashyamundu, co-starring Suresh Gopi, Dulquer Salmaan, and Kalyani Priyadarshan.
