Choreographer and actor Salman Yusuff Khan has opened up about a terrifying accident that left him with a serious hand injury and forced him to undergo surgery. Recalling the incident, the dancer said it happened in a matter of seconds and could have ended far worse.
Speaking about the mishap, Salman revealed that he fell from a height of nearly 13 feet while rehearsing, leaving his hand badly fractured. "I slipped, fell 13 feet and broke my hand," Salman recalled, adding that the accident came as a complete shock.
The actor said the fall was so severe that he immediately knew something was wrong. He was rushed for medical attention, where doctors confirmed the extent of the injury and advised surgery.
Describing the aftermath, Salman admitted that the recovery wasn't easy, especially for someone whose profession depends on physical movement and dance. "The surgery went well, but the rehabilitation was the toughest part. As a dancer, your body is your biggest asset, so being unable to move freely was emotionally challenging," he shared.
Despite the setback, Salman remained determined to recover and return to work. He credited his doctors, physiotherapists and family for helping him through the difficult phase.
The dancer said the incident also changed his perspective on life and work. According to him, the accident served as a reminder that no matter how experienced one is, safety can never be taken for granted. "It made me realise how unpredictable life can be. One moment you're rehearsing normally, and the next you're in an operating theatre," he said.
Looking back, Salman believes the experience made him mentally stronger. Although it temporarily kept him away from performing, he chose to focus on healing rather than dwelling on what had happened. "I didn't want to feel sorry for myself. I wanted to get better and come back stronger," he said.
The choreographer also revealed that the support from his loved ones and fans played a significant role in keeping his spirits high during recovery.
Today, Salman says he is grateful to have regained the strength to dance again, even though the injury was one of the most difficult phases of his life. While the scars remain a reminder of the freak accident, he has returned to doing what he loves the most.
"I'm just thankful that I can dance again. That's something I will never take for granted," Salman concluded, calling the accident a life-changing experience that taught him resilience, patience and the importance of valuing one's health above everything else. He was a part of Dance Plus.
