Actor Krishna Bharadwaj is set to bring a fresh twist to Yaadein with a special appearance as Satendra Tiwari, fondly known as Sattu. The upcoming track promises a mix of mystery, comedy and psychological intrigue as Sattu's unusual condition leaves both his family and the hospital team puzzled. In an exclusive chat with mid-day, Krishna details about his character, being typecast and more.
Speaking about taking on the role, Krishna revealed that he was initially hesitant. "I wasn't prepared to play this actually. So in the first narration I wasn't ready and I said no, I won't do it," he shared. Having portrayed similar eccentric characters in the past, the actor wasn't immediately convinced. "Because I've done these characters before in Tenali, I've done like more than 100 characters."
What eventually changed his mind was the uniqueness of Sattu's storyline. "But what was different in this was, this was of this era. And this was very psychotically this era kind of track. So that was quite an interesting part for me," he explained.
Krishna believes the role offered him an exciting acting challenge. "To play this crazy character, to live two men within yourself, it's quite an interesting experience as an actor, which this character gave me a chance to do."
The actor also pointed out that Yaadein is gradually embracing a lighter and more humorous tone. "I think now the show is going towards the quirky zone where we are showing the comedy part and slice-of-life part. So in a very nice way, treating the main problem, a lot of comedy things are happening in the hospital," he said.
Describing Sattu's impact on the storyline, Krishna added, "A total mad, insane character has come. Who's like a ghost, who's not a ghost, people are still contemplating, what is this, who is this? And the drama that he creates there, the confusions that are created because of that, that in itself is very funny."
Known for his comic timing, Krishna admitted that he often gets offered similar roles. "We tend to typecast an actor into a certain image. And the comedy image has been so stuck with me. And somehow it works," he said. The actor also expressed his affection for Sony SAB, adding, "It's been like 10 years and I'm only working with Sony SAB. They always give me the best of the characters. So I always get a tailor-made character."
Despite enjoying such roles, Krishna is eager to explore new territories. "I'm still looking for the zones where I can grow as an actor," he said. Calling acting a form of therapy, he added, "Acting for me is like healing. Whenever I'm emoting something, it just comes out of me and it makes me lighter as a human being."
Looking ahead, Krishna hopes to break away from his familiar image. "I am a die-hard Rockstar fan, and I would want to play something as complex as the character played in the film. Also, I'm looking for negative characters where I play some negative shades. I'm just fed up with this cute boy image now."
