Umar Riaz has opened up about the backlash his brother Asim Riaz faced following his breakup with Himanshi Khurana. Reflecting on the controversy, Umar said it was hurtful to see people demean Asim and questioned why the negative aspects of a relationship often receive more attention than the good moments. He also spoke about Asim's decision to address allegations publicly.
Speaking to ETimes, Umar said, "When people say things about you that are untrue, you have to defend yourself. Asim does not respond unless a situation reaches a point where he feels, âNow I have to make my point.' Otherwise, people might assume that whatever has been said about him is true. What happened this time was really sad. Everybody came out and started demeaning him, and that was hurtful. It makes you feel that perhaps you should not make your relationship public."
He further shared, "Everybody goes through difficult times, but there must have been good moments in the relationship too. Why not talk about those as well? Asim is a wonderful person, and people love him. The struggles he has faced over the past 10 years are things I have not experienced myself."
Himanshi and Asim got together during their time in the Bigg Boss 13 house. They dated for about four years before announcing their breakup in December 2023.
During a podcast, Himanshi revealed that religious differences played a major role in their breakup. She added that Asim would talk to her about the positive aspects of his religion and even wanted her to understand and accept those beliefs, something she was not comfortable with. Himanshi also recalled reaching a point where she wondered whether she would be "cremated or buried" if she accepted another faith.
Asim denied allegations that he pressured Himanshi to convert, criticising the discussion surrounding their personal relationship. He said, "So please, don't use religion as a weapon. It's a deeply sensitive subject, and turning something so personal into a reason for people to hate me is immature and only shows how low you're willing to go for attention."
However, later on, Himanshi clarified that she never claimed that she was forced to convert and said that her comments were misrepresented.
