Kritika Kamra
Complexity is what Kritika Kamra seeks in her characters. And she got that plenty in Gulrukh, her character in Matka King. With the Vijay Varma-led series renewed for a second season, Kamra is eager to return to her role that, she is confident, will find a stronger voice as the episodes roll.
"I've always been drawn to women who have contradictions and don't fit neatly into a box. That's something I recognise in Gulrukh as well. She has vulnerability, ambition, intelligence, and strength. That complexity makes her so compelling to me," said Kamra.
In the Nagraj Manjule-directed series, Gulrukh is a privileged South Bombay woman whose encounter with Varma's Brij opens her up to a world far removed from her own. As she navigates the power dynamics of the gambling world alongside Brij, she begins to understand her own capabilities. Her rise will become an important part of the next chapter. Kamra reflected, "The second season will give Gulrukh more agency and a greater understanding of what she wants. She isn't just reacting to the world anymore; she is beginning to shape it in her own way."
