The next chapter of one of India's most-loved and acclaimed franchises is officially underway. Sony LIV, Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment have begun production on Scam 2010, with National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta returning to direct the latest instalment. Actor Siddharth Bodke has been roped in to headline the series.

Following the success of Scam 1992, the upcoming season will explore another extraordinary real-life financial story. Scam 2010 traces the rise of a businessman who built a sprawling financial empire through small savings schemes before coming under intense public scrutiny. The series will delve into his ambition, influence, power, rise and eventual downfall, offering a closer look at the man behind the empire. The new instalment is inspired by Sahara scam. Based on Tamal Bandyopadhyay's Sahara: The Untold Story, the series chronicles Subrata Roy's rise, Sahara India Pariwar empire, financial controversies, arrest and eventual downfall.

Hansal Mehta details about the upcoming Scam 2010

Speaking about the series, Hansal Mehta said, "Scam 2010 is a story about ambition, influence and the arrogance that follows both. It looks at how one of India's largest business empires was built on belief and what happened when that belief ran out. It tells the fascinating story of the rise of an empire and the man who mistook it for invincibility."

Mehta has been an integral part of the Scam franchise since its beginning. His return as director marks another collaboration between the filmmaker and the series, which has earned a strong following for turning complex financial events into engaging human stories. Scam 1992, the first instalment, became a major success and was widely praised for its storytelling, performances and portrayal of the stock market scam that shook India.

With Scam 2010, the makers are once again looking at the intersection of money, ambition, influence and human nature. While the new story is set in a different period, it will continue the franchise's focus on real-life events and the people whose choices have far-reaching consequences.

Siddharth Bodke on playing Subrata Roy

Siddharth Bodke, who steps into the lead role, said he was particularly drawn to the complexity of Subrata Roy inspired character and the scale of the series. "What floored me was the complexity of the lead's personality and the scale of the show. His passion, power, flaws, rise and eventual downfall make him an incredibly fascinating character to portray," he said.

Sharing his experience of working on the project, Bodke added, "The experience has been nothing short of thrilling for me, and I have relished the opportunity to play such a layered character under the guidance of someone like Hansal Mehta."

Earlier, Hansal Mehta explored Scam with Pratik Gandhi's Scam 1992 and Gagan Dev Riar's Scam 2003: The Telgi story. It also garnered massive success and appreciation from the critics.

Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, Scam 2010 is currently in production. The series will stream exclusively on Sony LIV. The makers are yet to announce the official release date.
