See Mumbai from a new lens. From that thought emerged Richa Chadha's travel show, Musafiri, which explores the city through its history, communities, and dynamic social structure. Of the eight episodes, the seventh resonates strongly with Chadha as she spotlights how India's financial capital is one of its safest cities.
The idea for the seventh episode borrowed from the actor-producer's own experience as a Delhi woman who now lives in Mumbai. "When I moved to Mumbai from Delhi, I felt a sense of freedom where you could take the public transport at night and your parents were not worried," she recalled, adding that the safety is rooted in the city's respect for working class women. "This city has an ethos that respects the working class women. So, in this episode, I have examined the role of certain communities, how they allow their women to work outside their homes, and how much better it is for all women in Mumbai. I have shot all over the city - from Vasai and Virar, to Sassoon Dock, Byculla, Nariman Point, and more."
Chadha made Musafiri also for her personal reasons. The travel show became not only a way to document the city for her daughter Zuneyra Ida Fazal, but also helped her bounce back after postpartum depression. "When I was going through postpartum depression, I read this quote - âExpression is the opposite of depression.' Then I realised this is the phase in my life, after recovering fully from postpartum, when I have to do everything I can. I feel a new kind of energy and confidence."
