The story of India's bandit queen is being told again. Richie Mehta has written and directed Phoolan - inspired by the book I, Phoolan, by Phoolan Devi. The film will be showcased at the 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 16. Phoolan recounts a defining chapter in her life, when thousands of men surrounded a village in an attempt to shame, rape, and kill her. Sharing the announcement on Instagram on July 21, Prime Video posted the poster and wrote, "A story that unfolds over 48 unforgettable hours. Phoolan as an Official Selection at TIFF 2026."
