Pritam and Pedro: Swanand Kirkire reveals how he wrote Maafi during shoot breaks

Imagine an actor slipping out of his character and taking on the role of a lyricist every time the director says ‘Cut'. What if we told you that's how lyricist and actor Swanand Kirkire wrote the song, Maafi, for Rajkumar Hirani's web series Pritam and Pedro? Turns out, the request for the song came Kirkire's way when he was shooting in Goa. Instead of sitting down with a notebook and spending dedicated hours to writing, he would type lyrics on his phone between takes.

Recalling how he crafted Maafi for the Arshad Warsi and debutant Vir Hirani-led web series, Kirkire shared, "I was shooting in Goa for another project when Raju sir shared the situation with me. Every time there was a small break between shots, or while travelling to the location, or sitting in the vanity van and waiting for the next set-up, I would open WhatsApp and keep writing lines as they came to me. As soon as I felt a section was ready, I would send it to Raju sir. What amazed me was how quickly he connected with it."
