Florence Pugh's intimate sex scene from East of Eden has surfaced on social media, with a clip from the Netflix series being shared on X. The scene, featuring Pugh in the adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel, has drawn attention online shortly after the series began streaming.
The clip appears to show an intimate sequence from the seven-episode series, in which Pugh plays Cathy Ames, the complex central character whose relationship with the Trask family drives much of the story. East of Eden premiered on Netflix on October 1.
Pugh plays Cathy alongside Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask and Mike Faist as Charles Trask. The series, created by Zoe Kazan, revisits Steinbeck's 1952 novel and expands its focus on Cathy, whose choices have a lasting impact on the Trask family.
Netflix describes the show as a multigenerational story set in the early 1900s, following the Trask brothers and the woman whose arrival changes the course of their lives. Pugh is also an executive producer on the project.
The actor's performance has been a major talking point around the series, with Kazan previously revealing that Pugh was the actor she had in mind for Cathy. In an interview with People, Kazan praised Pugh's involvement in shaping the character and said she was the "only person" she wanted for the role. Pugh was also seen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
East of Eden marks a fresh screen adaptation of Steinbeck's celebrated novel, with the story spanning the lives of the Trask family across generations. Alongside Florence Pugh, the cast includes Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Ciaran Hinds, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders.
The series is directed by Garth Davis for its first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre for the final three, while Kazan serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Jeb Stuart.
Pugh's Cathy is at the centre of the new adaptation, with the series giving greater attention to the character's past, motivations and complicated relationships. Netflix's official synopsis describes Cathy as a fiercely independent woman whose presence creates a rift between Adam and Charles.
The seven-part East of Eden is currently streaming on Netflix.
