Sony LIV has unveiled the official trailer of its upcoming animated series The Legend of Karna, offering a glimpse into the life of one of the Mahabharata's most complex warriors. Created by Sharad Devarajan and Jeevan J. Kang and produced by Graphic India, the series brings Karna's extraordinary journey of courage, identity and destiny to screen and will premiere on the streaming platform on July 31.
While the Mahabharata has been told through the victories and struggles of many warriors, Karna's journey remains one of its most layered tales, a story of talent, identity, loyalty and destiny. The animated series aims to present the epic from Karna's perspective, exploring the challenges faced by a warrior who was often judged by his birth rather than his abilities.
Born to Kunti and the Sun God Surya but raised in a charioteer's family, Karna's life was marked by a constant battle against societal expectations. Despite possessing extraordinary skills with the bow, he was denied recognition because of questions surrounding his lineage.
The series follows Karna's transformation from a young warrior struggling for acceptance to one of the greatest fighters of his era. His life changes after he enters the grand tournament at Hastinapura, challenging the established order and proving his abilities among royal warriors.
However, his rise comes with its own conflicts. Supported by Prince Duryodhana, who crowns him king, Karna finds himself caught between gratitude, loyalty and the secrets surrounding his true identity. As political ambitions and personal choices collide, the warrior must decide whether to follow the path written by destiny or create his own legacy.
Speaking about the series, Sharad Devarajan said that Karna's story continues to feel relevant because of its exploration of talent, ambition and social barriers.
"Karna has always been the tragic heart of the Mahabharata," Devarajan said, adding that the series aims to portray him as a hero whose greatness came from his actions rather than his birth.
With The Legend of Karna, Sony LIV and Graphic India are bringing a fresh visual interpretation of one of Indian mythology's most fascinating figures. The animated series promises to explore the warrior's courage, sacrifices and the choices that shaped his place in history.
The Legend of Karna will stream exclusively on Sony LIV from July 31.
