Prime Video has announced the premiere date of its upcoming period drama The Revolutionaries, directed by filmmaker Nikkhil Advani. Inspired by true events, the series will premiere worldwide on September 11, 2026, and aims to bring the stories of lesser-known freedom fighters to a global audience.
The series is based on Sanjeev Sanyal's bestselling book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom. Created and directed by Advani, the show is produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under Emmay Entertainment. It stars Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada in the lead, with Jason Shah, Paoli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury in key roles.
Set during India's freedom movement, The Revolutionaries follows four young revolutionaries who choose the dangerous path of armed resistance against the British Empire. Bhuvan Bam plays Rash Behari Bose, Rohit Saraf portrays Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Pratibha Ranta essays Pratibha Lahiri, while Gurfateh Pirzada steps into the role of Bagha Jatin.
Rather than focusing on the more familiar names from India's freedom struggle, the series aims to explore the lives, friendships, sacrifices and betrayals of figures whose contributions have received comparatively less mainstream attention.
Advani described the project as an opportunity to "shine a light on the lesser-known heroes of pre-independence India". He added that the series has been approached as a character-driven action drama exploring "rebellion, sacrifice, friendship, and freedom".
The filmmaker also promised a cinematic take on the historical material, blending real events with the emotional journeys of its central characters.
The series is built around four brave hearts and their attempts to mobilise armed resistance against the British. The team hopes the story will both entertain and move audiences.
The producers, meanwhile, called the project a "labour of love", highlighting the scale and historical significance of bringing these stories to the screen.
Written by Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang and Rutvi Mehta, The Revolutionaries will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in Hindi, with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali. Subtitles will also be available in English and several international languages.
The series will release across India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on September 11. With its mix of history, action and drama, Advani's latest offering is set to revisit a lesser-known side of India's independence movement.
