Mumbai's heat is getting to everybody and it is visible in the number of people who are visibly covering their heads throughout the day with umbrellas. As many people react to it on social media, a church in Andheri has taken it a step further by turning it into a light moment for locals and people passing by by sharing a funny yet inspiring message.
Holy Family Church in Andheri East's Chakala has put up the message on its eye-catching green board at entrance saying, "Some Days Test You, Some Days Build You, Mumbai Heat Does Both'. The message has also been shared on the social media page of the church's youth page 'Holy Family Parish Youth - Official' or 'YouthOfHolyFamily', and has got many funny reactions, showcasing how it has captured the sentiment of many Mumbaikars. The caption makes it even funnier as it says, "Don't roast your friends. Mumbai heat will", and maybe this is what we need to see to beat the heat.
The post is even funnier because it uses the popular song 'Mumbhai', making it all the most relatable for every local, who is complaining about Mumbai's heat.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that the church has put up posts that have been widely shared across social media, especially by youth including not only Gen-Z and Millennials.
Among many others, the church had shared an encouraging thought on the very same board, saying, "God Is Pretty Creative, I Mean Look At You'. The post was widely shared not only among the Catholic community but also by people of other faith in the city, who have been seeing the board and sharing about how relatable they are to their life. It also puts a smile on the face of those who frequently see it when they are passing by, going to work or coming home.
On one other occasion, the board also said, "Less Scrolling, More Living", and truer words have never been spoken, even as most people scroll past on the street.
The appreciation for these posts has been a lot on the Instagram feeds of many Mumbaikars, who spot those living or working in Andheri, sharing it during their commute for work, or locals living there.
Jose Kizhakedathu is one such Mumbaikar who lives in the neighbourhood and passes by the church almost every day, and shares the positivity and introspection that the messages give him. He reacts, "I absolutely love it especially because it's on my way home and weirdly it has a knack for having the right quote that resonates with me."
In fact, Kizhakedathu shares one such quote that he saw, "Trust what God blocks", saying, "It had this when I was going through a difficult time. I lost something which I spent years building and I couldn't understand why. I saw this and realised it's probably for the best and rightly so."
Interestingly, the message may be on a church but one that many Mumbaikars who aren't from the Catholic community. "Yes, I believe these posts appeal to non-Catholics too. I've even come across a non-Catholic account that posts it weekly as mostly it's something fun or general good advice."
Pallavi Rai is one among many other Mumbaikars who love reading the messages on the signboard and even share them on social media. In fact, the city-based Gen Z professional, who passes by the church on her way to work, even clicks and saves the messages that she most identifies with.
She shares, "The message is always on point! I genuinely keep an eye out because every quote somehow manages to hit at the perfect time. The church is absolutely nailing it's with these boards (laughs). They're funny, comforting, relatable and weirdly motivating all at once."
Rai agrees that it appeals to non- Catholics too, saying, "A lot of the quotes go beyond religion and tap into everyday emotions, struggles and humour that literally anyone can relate to. It feels more human than preachy, which is probably why people connect with it so much."
While traditionally many churches used biblical quotes, many of them today including Holy Family Church in Andheri East are using more relatable quotes that are not only in English but also Hinglish, making it relatable to every Mumbaikar passing by the church in one of the most populated industrial districts.
Among her many favourites Rai highlights, "My favourite till now has been "Be in your âJo hoga dekha jayega' era". It was hilarious, chaotic and painfully relatable in the best way possible. The timing of that quote was elite but overall, I love how this church mixes humour with hope so effortlessly."
