Mumbai: 52-year-old man with upset stomach falls to death from 18th floor while defecating, cops launch probe

A 52-year-old man with an upset stomach died after falling from the 18th floor of a building in Mumbai on Sunday while defecating from the edge of a shaft, an official said, reported the PTI.

The incident occurred at the 18-storey Matoshree Sadan building, Wadala, in central Mumbai, said the official from RAK Marg police station.

The man, a resident of the high-rise building, had been suffering from dysentery for the past few days, the police official said.

He had reportedly gone to the top floor for some work when he may have lost control of his bowels, the police suspect, he said, according to the PTI.

He sat to defecate on the edge of a shaft near a lift but may have lost his balance and plunged into a pit on the ground floor of the high-rise building, the official said.

After being alerted, police rushed to the the spot and got the man out of the pit with the help of fire brigade personnel who too have arrived the spot.

He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the official said.

Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and launched a probe into the matter, he added, as per the PTI.

Mumbai police constable ends life at his home

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 56-year-old constable of the Mumbai Police allegedly died by suicide at his home on Sunday morning, a police official said, according to the PTI.

The police official lived in Parksite area in suburban Vikhroli, he said.

The constable was sleeping on the lower floor of his house, his wife told the police following the incident.

She told the police that when she woke up around 8.30 am and found the cop dead in their house, reported then PTI.

After being alerted, the local police rushed the cop's house.

The police said that an accidental death report (ADR) has been registered, and efforts are being made to ascertain what pushed the victim to take the drastic step, the official added, the news agency reported.

He said that investigations into the matter were underway.
