A man was allegedly assaulted and suffered a severe nose injury after objecting to loud music and firecrackers during a Ganpati idol immersion procession in Goregaon East, following which four people were arrested, a Mumbai Police official said on Friday, reported the PTI.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning outside Pradhan Society on Gotewadi Road in Goregaon, the official from Vanrai police station said.
According to police, Advait Arun Madkaikar (29) objected to a group playing dhol-tasha and bursting firecrackers outside his residential society during an immersion procession. He began recording the group on his phone, following which an argument broke out, the news agency reported.
"One of the men being filmed punched Madkaikar in the face, while three others kicked him," the police official said.
Madkaikar suffered a severe nose injury and required surgery, police said.
He later also narrated his ordeal in a social media post that later went viral.
Based on Madkaikar's complaint, police registered a case on Wednesday and subsequently arrested four people.
Among those arrested in the matter include the driver of the vehicle carrying the Lord Ganesha idol, police said.
They have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voluntarily causing grievous hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace and acting with common intention, among other offences, police said.
The allegations against the four accused are subject to the ongoing legal process.

The incident comes amid an ongoing debate in several parts of Maharashtra over the use of loud sound systems, commonly referred to as DJs, during Ganpati festivities. In state, there is a growing debate over how festival celebrations should be conducted while reducing noise pollution.
The debate over high-decibel music during festivals has highlighted the challenge of balancing traditional celebrations with the concerns of residents affected by excessive noise.
Activists have raised concerns that the use of high-volume sound systems during religious processions can violate prescribed noise pollution limits and affect public health.
