Three workers killed after wall collapses at rubber factory in Maharashtra's Palghar

Three workers died after an interior wall collapsed at a rubber manufacturing plant in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Thursday morning, officials said, reported the PTI.

The incident took place around 10 am at Tina Rubber Factory, located along the Vikramgad-Wada road in Pali Posheri village.

The deceased have been identified as Keshav Gunguna, 55, Ranjana Komb, 35, and Mira Gawli, 60.

According to officials, the three workers were having breakfast inside a storeroom when the interior wall suddenly caved in, trapping them under the debris.

Emergency responders rushed the workers to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival, Palghar disaster management officer Vivekanand Kadam told PTI.

Bodies sent for post-mortem

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, officials said.

Police and other local authorities reached the site and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

The cause of the incident has not yet been officially established.

Heavy sacks may have put pressure on wall

Apti gram panchayat sarpanch Pramod Patil said the wall may have collapsed because of structural overload.

According to Patil, a large number of heavy sacks had been stacked directly against the wall, which may have put additional pressure on the structure.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the collapse.

Woman injured after tree falls on multiple rooms of chawl in Thane

Meanwhile, in an another incident, last week, a woman was injured after a large tree fell on at least four rooms across two chawls near the crematorium in the Balkum area of Thane (West) in Maharashtra, officials said.

The structures were also damaged in the incident, they said.

The Thane emergency services received information about the incident at around 6.14 pm on September 18.

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the tree fell on a total of four rooms in two chawls.

At T M Patil Chawl, a portion of the roof sheets of Room No. 4 was damaged after the tree fell on the room. The remaining roof sheets were found to be in a dangerous condition, following which the room was temporarily vacated.

In Room No. 5, which was also occupied at the time of the incident, the window glass was damaged.

At Kotkar House Chawl, the roof sheets of Room No. 1 were extensively damaged. As the remaining portion of the roof was considered dangerous, the room was vacated.

Room No. 2 also suffered minor damage to its roof sheet.
