A six-vehicle collision took place in Maharashtra's Thane on Monday afternoon, leaving one person seriously injured, officials said, adding that the traffic movement on the route was affected after the accident.

The accident occurred around 1:47 pm near Nitin Bridge, opposite the Tata Motors showroom on the Nashik-Mumbai Road, when vehicles travelling towards Thane lost control while descending the bridge, they said.

According to Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), a series of rear-end collisions led to the crash involving six four-wheelers.

Initial reports suggest that one vehicle rammed another from behind, triggering a chain reaction in which several vehicles crashed into one another, officials said.

The driver of a tempo, identified as Sheikh Shabir Mahmood (22), suffered serious injuries to his left leg and left arm.

He was given immediate assistance at the scene and later admitted to a government hospital in Thane for further treatment under police supervision.
