In a major crackdown on Mumbai's growing synthetic drugs network, the Kandivali unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police on Tuesday busted an alleged MD drug manufacturing laboratory. The drug manufacturing facility was operating in the Agripada area. As per the officials, they have arrested two accused, including a woman.

The late-night raid was carried out at a residential premises in Agripada, where police allegedly recovered more than six kilograms of MD drugs, also known as mephedrone (MD), along with a substantial quantity of chemicals and sophisticated laboratory equipment suspected to have been used in the manufacturing of narcotic substances.

Sources said that the seized contraband and raw materials indicate the lab was actively being used for the production of drugs on a significant scale. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain, distribution network, and possible interstate links connected to the racket.

The latest action comes close on the heels of another major anti-drug operation carried out earlier this month by the Crime Branch Unit 4 of the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate. In that case, police had arrested a couple from the Agripada area and recovered over 6 kilograms of MD drugs from their possession.

253 litres of illegal chemical seized

During the same investigation, police had also uncovered an alleged MD drug manufacturing setup at a farmhouse in Manori. Additionally, officials seized around 253 litres of chemicals from a warehouse at a wedding mandap in the Malvani area, which investigators believe were meant to be used in the production of synthetic drugs.

Officials suspect that multiple locations across Mumbai's western suburbs and island city were being used as storage and manufacturing points for the narcotics network. Further arrests in the case are likely.
