In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested nine individuals and seized 508 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore from the city's suburbs.
According to officials, the action was carried out under the directives of the Brihanmumbai Police Commissioner as part of a focused drive to curb the illegal sale and distribution of narcotic substances across Mumbai and its suburban areas.
The Kandivali unit of the ANC conducted the operation on March 30, 2026, in Santacruz East, where the accused were allegedly involved in drug peddling. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team intercepted the suspects and recovered a significant quantity of heroin from their possession.
Following the seizure, a case was registered under Crime Register (CR) No. 49/2026 at Malad Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Police suspect the drugs were meant for distribution across Mumbai's suburban network. The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior Mumbai Police officials, including the Police Commissioner and senior Crime Branch officers.
Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals linked to the drug network.
