The Charkop police have arrested a 19-year-old woman and her boyfriend for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from her grandmother's house in Kandivali West.

Police said the 65-year-old complainant had kept the jewellery inside a cupboard locker before travelling to her native village in Pune with family members on May 4. When the family returned to Mumbai on May 14, they allegedly found the locker broken and the ornaments missing.
After the family found the locker broken on returning from Pune, suspicion fell on the granddaughter, who allegedly confessed that she and her boyfriend stole the ornaments because they needed money
As per the investigation, the granddaughter frequently visited the residence, leading the family to suspect her involvement.
The family initially avoided filing a police complaint after she assured them the jewellery would be returned, but in the early hours of April 17 she left home with her belongings and boyfriend, also switched off her phone
During questioning, it was allegedly revealed that she and her boyfriend stole the jewellery because they needed money for his drug addiction and to start a new life together.
After she allegedly left home with her boyfriend, the family approached the Charkop police and lodged an FIR. The duo was produced before a court and remanded to police custody. Further investigation into the case is underway.
