Mumbai Customs seize hydroponic weed worth Rs 14.5 cr at airport, one arrested

In a major drug bust, officials from the Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone-III seized 14.548 kilograms of suspected hydroponic weed, valued at approximately Rs 14.5 crore in the illicit market. The seizure was made during the intervening night of August 5 and 6 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

Acting on spot profiling, customs officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok on flight UL141. Upon examination of the passenger's trolley bag, officers recovered the concealed narcotic substance.

The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Customs officials said the seizure highlights their continued vigilance and commitment to combating drug trafficking through air routes. Further investigation is underway.

Hydroponic weed worth Rs 8 crore seized at Mumbai airport; four passengers held

In a major anti-narcotics operation, officers from the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, seized 8.012 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana valued at approximately Rs 8 crore during multiple operations conducted at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) between July 29 and 30, according to an official statement.

The seizures were made in four separate cases, leading to the arrest of four passengers. The action was based on specific intelligence inputs, the release noted, as per the news agency ANI.

In the first case, Customs officers intercepted three passengers who had arrived from Bangkok on flight VZ760. Upon checking their baggage, authorities found 1.990 kg of suspected hydroponic weed, concealed in vacuum-sealed black and transparent plastic packets hidden inside their trolley bags. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 2 crore in the illicit market.

The three passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In a separate operation based on passenger profiling, Customs officials intercepted another passenger arriving from Bangkok on flight number 6E1060. During the examination of the baggage, the Customs officers recovered 6.022 kg of suspected hydroponic weed, worth an estimated Rs 6 crore in the illicit market. The narcotic substances were cleverly concealed inside the checked-in trolley bag carried by the passenger, according to the news agency ANI.

The individual was also arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985, the press release stated.
