A 25-year-old paan shop owner has been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl at Kandivli in March 2020. The accused reportedly offered samosa and chocolate to lure the girl.

The accused, Rajkumar Dhaniram Yadav, 25, ran a paan shop in Kandivli and the victim was studying in Senior KG when the crime was committed. According to the police, on March 11, 2020 Yadav left his shop on seeing the girl playing outside her home. He offered her samosa and chocolate to lure her into a small lane where he sexually assaulted her, the police said.

Yadav is stated to have dropped the girl near her house and told her that he would give her samosa again the next day.

The girl went home crying, and told her mother what happened. She was also having difficulty urinating. Her mother immediately informed the Kandivli police and registered an FIR, on the basis of which Yadav was arrested the next day, the police further said.

During the investigation, the police found CCTV and eyewitness evidence of Yadav with the girl.

On July 23 Additional Sessions Judge Ashwini D Lokhande sentenced Yadav to five years of rigorous imprisonment.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Geeta Malankar had demanded the maximum punishment for the accused for the heinous crime.
