The MHB Colony police station has arrested two accused who allegedly snatched a teacher's bag while she was on her way to attend a Maharashtra Day flag hoisting ceremony at her school in Dahisar West.
According to police sources, the accused were traced and arrested using the location of the stolen mobile phone that was inside the victim's bag at the time of the robbery.
According to the complaint, the teacher, Floris Xavier D'Silva, 54, was heading to school for the Maharashtra Day flag hoisting ceremony on May 1. At 7.05 am, near Aishwarya Building on Yashwantrao Tawde Marg in Dahisar West, two unidentified men arrived on a white scooter and snatched the slim bag hanging from her shoulder.
The stolen bag contained a Samsung A-31 mobile phone, cash, and other belongings collectively valued at around Rs 20,500. By tracking the location of the stolen Samsung mobile phone and analysing technical evidence, investigators traced the accused and arrested them from Mira Road last week.
The arrested accused were identified as Raj Ramkumar Bramhabhatt and Shubham Niraj Singh. "Singh is a habitual criminal with more than 25 cases of robbery and theft registered against him," said an officer.
Investigators further revealed that the scooter used in the crime was also stolen from the jurisdiction of Kasturba Marg police station, which has now taken custody of the accused in connection with the vehicle theft case.
His modus operandi was to allegedly steal scooters and then use them to commit snatching and robbery offences,"said an officer from MHB police station.
