A key accused in the NESCO concert drug overdose case was arrested by the police at the Mumbai airport upon his return from Thailand, police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Mahesh Hira Khemlani, also known as "Mark", was taken into custody by the Vanrai Police upon his arrival in Mumbai from Bangkok, an official said.
Police said Khemlani was absconding since the incident during the concert at NESCO, where two MBA students had died following a suspected drug overdose. Following the case, he allegedly fled to Thailand in an attempt to evade arrest.
According to police sources, the accused was apprehended immediately after landing in Mumbai from Bangkok late on Thursday night.
Investigators believe that Khemlani was a key figure in the drug supply chain linked to the case and may have played a central role in distributing illegal substances at the event.
Police sources said further investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the drug network and to identify if other individuals are involved in the case.
