Two accused in the NESCO drug overdose case, Veenit Gerelani and Ayush Sahitya, have been remanded to fresh police custody after previously being in judicial custody, officials said on Monday.
The Borivali court granted the Vanrai Police four days of custody to allow further investigation into the case, they said.
The custody of Gerelani and Sahitya comes after recent arrest of key accused in the matter.
The alleged main supplier, Mahesh Khemlani, also known as Mark, was recently arrested by the police, officials said.
According to police sources, Gerelani and Sahitya were in close contact with both Khemlani and another accused identified as Zia. Investigators believe the two played a key role in the network.
Two MBA students had died following a suspected drug overdose during a music concert at NESCO in Mumbai.
Officials said that a large number of financial transactions linked to the alleged drug operation were routed through bank accounts connected to the two suspects.
Police are now examining these transactions to trace the money trail and understand the scale of the network.
Police told the court that custodial interrogation was necessary to confront Gerelani and Sahitya directly with the main accused.
They said such questioning would help uncover the wider conspiracy, identify other individuals involved, and establish links within the supply chain.
With the alleged main supplier now in custody, investigators are intensifying efforts to piece together the full drug distribution network.
The officials are focusing on both the supply chain and the financial aspects of the case as part of the ongoing probe.
