Thane: Four injured in violent clash over construction dispute in Kalwa

Four people were injured in a clash between two rival groups following a dispute over some construction activities in Maharashtra's Thane city, officials said on Sunday.

As reported by news agency PTI, the incident broke out at Jai Bhim Nagar in the Kalwa area on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, May 8.

An official from Kalwa Police Station, while briefing about the incident, said, "Nearly 20 persons, including women, from two rival groups threw stones and attacked each other with iron rods," as per PTI.

The official also added, "During the violence, the house of a person was ransacked and pelted with stones. A car parked in front of the premises was also damaged, and documents in it were destroyed."

Four injured

The officials also added that the clash occurred following a feud between the two sides over some construction activities in the locality, as per PTI.

Four people, two each from both sides, were injured in the incident and underwent treatment at a local hospital, the official said.

Based on cross-complaints, police registered two FIRs on Saturday against 20 persons from the two sides on charges of rioting, assault and criminal intimidation, he said.

Following the incident, no arrest has been made so far, the police said, adding that a probe was underway into the incident.

Thane police trace 110 lost mobile phones worth Rs 18.65 lakh

In a major breakthrough, police officials have traced 110 lost mobile phones collectively valued at Rs 18.65 lakh and returned them to their owners in Maharashtra's Thane city, officials said on Sunday.

As reported by news agency PTI, these devices had been reported lost in the city's Kalwa area since last year.

They were traced using technical surveillance and information on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, Kalwa police station's senior inspector Ashok Uttekar said.

The mobile phones were subsequently returned to their original owners after a due verification process, he added.

Parked two-wheelers damaged in early morning fire in Thane

Three parked two-wheelers were damaged after a fire broke out near Bhaskar Tower in the Kopri area of Thane East during the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the incident was reported at around 4:19 am. Following the alert, firefighters reached the spot with a fire engine and began efforts to control the blaze.
