The police have raided an orchestra bar and rescued 13 women, including a minor, from the establishment in Maharashtra's Thane district. As reported by news agency PTI, based on a tip-off, a police team raided the bar in Bhayandar East on Thursday night and found women performing on stage, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doiphonde said.
Doiphonde, while briefing about the case, said, "The raid was conducted around midnight following inputs that the bar management was employing more women than permitted and forcing them to perform obscene dances to attract customers," as cited by PTI.
The DCP also added that during a search of the building, the police team found a narrow concealed cavity created to hide additional women and rescued six women and a minor, who were suffocating in the confined space.
Following the incident, thirteen women have been rescued from the establishment, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against 13 accused for allegedly endangering lives, hiding women in unsafe conditions and forcing them to perform obscene acts.
In a separate scene, a house theft case in Malad East took a shocking turn after police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly orchestrating a robbery at his own brother's home due to mounting debt. Furthermore, with the help of an accomplice, the accused stole gold and cash worth over Rs 3.38 lakh.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and under the guidance of the DCP of Zone XII, Sandeep Jadhav, senior inspector Mahendra Shinde and PSI Ajit Desai and his detection team launched a detailed probe. Officials scanned footage from 30 to 40 CCTV cameras over seven days, combining technical inputs and human intelligence to trace the accused.
On April 22, police arrested Noman Rizwan Tajani, 23, and Aman Rasool Sheikh, 19. During interrogation, it was revealed that Tajani had conspired with his friend Sheikh to target his elder brother's house, driven by mounting debt.
According to the police, Tajani, who worked as a food delivery agent, had fallen into debt due to bad company and expensive habits. With no way left to repay his loans, he allegedly plotted the theft.
"Tajani was well aware of where his sister-in-law kept cash and jewellery, which made it easier to plan the crime. Sheikh, reportedly a drug addict who had recently come out of rehab, was also in need of money to sustain his addiction.
