Hasan Raza Jahagir Alam Sayeed, the 18-year-old BCom student from Sakinaka who died after a tree branch fell onto the motorcycle he was riding pillion on in Aarey Milk Colony
An afternoon bike ride with childhood friends ended in tragedy for 18-year-old Hasan Raza Jahagir Alam Sayeed after a tree branch allegedly snapped and fell onto the motorcycle he was riding pillion on in Aarey Milk Colony on Saturday. Hasan, a BCom student from Sakinaka, suffered a severe head injury and was declared brought dead at Balaji Hospital in Malad. Doctors who conducted the post-mortem on Sunday listed polytrauma as the provisional cause of death.
According to friends, Hasan and three others had left Sakinaka on two motorcycles around noon for a leisure ride. After stopping for tea and snacks in Aarey, they were returning home when the accident took place around 3.30 pm on Unit 13 Road.

Relatives questioned whether the tragedy could have been avoided had roadside trees in Aarey been inspected before the monsoon. They demanded that the authorities identify who was responsible for maintaining the tree and take action if negligence is found.
Malik Mohammad Areeb, 19, who was riding ahead of Hasan, said he heard a loud cracking sound moments before the accident.
"I thought the sound came from one of the trees overhead and immediately shouted for everyone to speed up. Our bike managed to cross, but the branch fell on the second bike. Hasan suffered a direct blow to the head. We rushed him to hospital with the help of a passer-by, but doctors declared him dead."
Another friend, Zeeshan Ahmed Chowdhury, 20, said the ride had been completely unplanned. "We've grown up together. It was raining, so we thought we'd just go out for tea. I'm still trying to process what happened."
Hasan was the elder of two brothers and is survived by his parents and 15-year-old sibling.
A first-year BCom student, he had been learning the visor manufacturing business for the past six months and hoped to start his own venture.
His father, Jahagir Alam Sayeed, said Hasan had chosen to stay home because of the rain before deciding to step out with friends.
"He was my older son. He had dreams of starting his own business instead of taking up a job. His birthday was next month. My wife is unable to come to terms with what has happened."
Social worker Mohammad Iqbal also alleged delays in the police procedure, claiming the family had to visit Aarey police station twice and that the spot panchnama was conducted only on Sunday morning. According to him, the delay prolonged the post-mortem process and the release of Hasan's body.
