The carcass of a mysterious marine mammal washed up on Aksa beach last evening.

Ankit Vyas, wildlife lover and volunteer from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, said the carcass was spotted by a lifeguard on the beach, who alerted officials of the forest department as well as the state mangrove cell. "It is difficult to identify the species because its tail and the head are missing.

It might be a dolphin, a porpoise or a whale calf." He said the numbers of wounded and dead marine creatures washing up to Mumbai and Palghar coasts have increased in recent years.

According to mangrove cell officials, 77 carcasses of marine creatures have washed up on city's coast between 2015 and 2017. Around 20 marine creatures were found on the west coast, between Mumbai and Dahanu, this year alone.
