Central Railway upgrades passenger amenities across Mumbai division

Central Railway's Mumbai Division has upgraded passenger amenities across several stations as part of its continued push to enhance commuter comfort, accessibility and safety. The improvements, carried out through October 2025, include new escalators, energy-efficient fittings, upgraded passenger information systems and innovative ticketing support.

Passenger comfort upgrades

Four new escalators have been commissioned, two each at Dombivli (platforms 3 and 4) and Kurla (platforms 5 and 6). To improve ventilation, Central Railway has installed 92 additional energy-efficient BLDC fans and 33 air circulator fans across multiple stations. Officials said the BLDC fans consume 50-70 per cent less energy and generate lower noise compared to traditional induction fans.

Information system upgrades

A GPS tower clock has been installed at Uran station, while Matunga station's Public Address System has been upgraded to an IP-based setup with 35 speakers for clearer announcements and wider coverage.

New ticketing support

Central Railway has introduced Mobile UTS Sahayaks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Equipped with mobile phones and portable ticket printers, the Sahayaks move across the station premises issuing tickets directly to passengers.

Central Railway said the latest upgrades align with its long-term vision of a more passenger-friendly, modern and efficient railway network, focused on convenience, accessibility and safety.
