The Anti-Evasion wing of CGST and Central Excise, Thane Commissionerate, in a major operation, has busted a fake GST credit fraud. The fraud, which has duped the government significantly, involved fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) of about Rs 47.32 crore. Officials confirmed that the alleged mastermind, Vivek Rajesh Maurya, has been arrested for orchestrating the scam.

According to the department, the case was detected using in-house intelligence and advanced data analysis tools. Findings revealed that M/s KSM Enterprises, operated by Vivek Rajesh Maurya, had fraudulently claimed and passed on ITC without any actual supply of goods or services. A search at his residence led to the recovery of incriminating evidence, including bank passbooks, chequebooks, multiple mobile phones and documents linked to several fraudulent firms.

As per the Office of the Commissioner, CGST and Central Excise, Thane Commissionerate, during questioning, Vivek Maurya admitted to masterminding the fraud, earning commissions, and directly benefiting from the illegal proceeds. Consequently, he was arrested on August 19, 2025, and produced before the judicial magistrate in Thane. Maurya was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

Officials stressed that this action is part of the CGST department's continuing drive against tax fraud and GST evasion, which cause major losses to government revenue and create unfair advantages in the market.
