Motorists in parts of Mumbai are likely to face traffic restrictions today as the Mumbai Traffic Police have announced diversions and road closures in view of Dahi Handi celebrations. The restrictions have been announced to manage vehicular movement and ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians amid the expected crowds. The traffic police have appealed to motorists to plan their journeys in advance and follow the designated alternative routes during the celebrations.
The south channel of the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road between Shreyas Junction and Bhimnagar Junction will remain closed to vehicles from 7 am to 11.30 pm due to a large Dahi Handi event at Tilak Wadi, Sainath Nagar, Ghatkopar West. Motorists travelling from Shreyas Junction towards Asalpha will have to take the south channel of LBS Marg, turn right at Sarvodaya Junction, and proceed via Hirachand Desai Road before rejoining
the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
Traffic restrictions will be in place on Jarimari Road from 5 pm to 11 pm. Vehicles travelling south on SV Road towards Hill Road via Jarimari Road will be diverted at Vitthal Mandir signal. They will have to take a U-turn, proceed north on SV Road, turn left onto Dr V Raghunath Marg, and continue via St Martin Road towards Hill Road.
Motorists should expect congestion around Dadar West, Shivaji Park, Lalbaug, and Currey Road. Ranade Road, Dr DSilva Road, and MC Jawale Road in Dadar, along with New Prabhadevi and Rajabhau Desai Road, could face closure till 11 pm. Traffic around Parel and Currey Road will also be diverted through Currey Road Bridge and Chinchpokli Bridge.
Motorists are likely to face congestion particularly around Girgaon, Kalbadevi, Bhuleshwar, and Masjid Bunder. Motorists have been advised to use alternate routes and avoid roads witnessing large gatherings, with the traffic police deploying diversions to manage crowds and vehicular movement.
Traffic restrictions will be in force from 7 am to 11 pm, with diversions around GPO Chowk, Dr Mus Chowk, and other key stretches as large Dahi Handi celebrations are expected at Tembhi Naka, Tower Naka, Brahman Sabha Hall, and Station Road. Traffic will be diverted through Creek Naka, B-Cabin, and the SATIS bridge route. Police have also deployed 2307 personnel across the Thane Police Commissionerate limits for the festivities.
