Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Maharashtra's Hingoli, Nanded and Parbhani districts during the early hours of Thursday, officials said.
According to authorities, no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far following the tremors that occurred in the Marathwada region.
The District Emergency Operations Centre said the tremors were recorded between 1:37 am and 3:23 am, causing concern among residents as multiple seismic activities were reported within a short period.
According to official reports, the earthquake magnitudes were recorded at 4.6, 3.6 and 3.9 on the Richter scale.
Officials said the epicentre was located near Shirli village in Basmat taluka of Hingoli district. Preliminary assessments conducted by the District Emergency Operations Centre confirmed that there was no loss of life or damage to houses and other structures.
The tremors occurred when most residents were asleep. Authorities said that while further tremors cannot be ruled out, earthquakes cannot be predicted in advance.
Officials have appealed to residents not to panic and follow necessary safety precautions in case of fresh tremors.
District Collector Rahul Kardile advised people to move to open areas if they experience any further earthquake activity.
As a precautionary measure, emergency response teams, fire services and medical units in Hingoli, Nanded and Parbhani districts have been placed on alert to respond to any situation.
Authorities said they are continuing to monitor the situation and will take necessary steps if any aftershocks are reported.
Meanwhile, rainfall intensity is expected to decrease across parts of Maharashtra from July 9.
Weather agency Skymet said no fresh monsoon system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days, which may reduce intense rainfall activity over Mumbai and surrounding areas.
Several parts of the state have witnessed heavy rainfall in recent days, leading to increased monitoring by local administrations.
In its latest weather update issued on Thursday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed Nashik, Palghar, Raigad, Pune and Satara districts under a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall.
An orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued for Mumbai suburban areas and Thane.
A yellow alert remains in place for Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, where thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rainfall are expected at isolated locations.
