A fire was reported at an under-construction section of Mumbai Metro Line-2B on the night of June 15, 2026, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The incident occurred at approximately 10:52 pm near P-400 (left-hand side), Pylon-4, at the fourth level of the project site. MMRDA said the fire involved wooden shuttering materials used during construction.

The fire was brought under control by the site's emergency response team with support from the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

No casualties or structural damage reported

MMRDA stated that no injuries were reported in the incident. The authority also said that there was no damage to the metro structure.

According to MMRDA, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and remains under investigation.

Inquiry initiated into incident

The authority said it has initiated a detailed inquiry into the incident as part of its safety review process.

MMRDA reiterated that it follows a zero-tolerance approach towards safety violations across its infrastructure projects and will examine whether all prescribed safety protocols were followed at the site.

Contractors and consultants under review

The Metro Line-2B package where the incident occurred is being executed by J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd under the supervision of AICA Consortium, the project's general consultant appointed by MMRDA.

The authority said any shortcomings in compliance with safety requirements by the agencies involved would be dealt with in accordance with contractual obligations and applicable regulations.

Safety measures reinforced

MMRDA said additional preventive measures have been reinforced across project sites following the incident. The authority maintained that worker and public safety remain its highest priority during the execution of metro infrastructure projects.

Fire at residential building in Mumbai's Juhu area

In another incident, a fire broke out in an air-conditioning unit at an 11-storey residential building in the upscale Juhu area of Mumbai on June 11 morning, officials said.

No casualties were reported so far, they said. As per preliminary information, the blaze erupted in the Manisha Building located near Arogya Nidhi Hospital and was reported at 7.43 am.

The fire was confined to an AC unit on the building's sixth floor, an official said. No injuries were reported in the incident, the official said.
